Sponsored by the Sewell Foundation, the SOTA Reading Series brings readers from across the arts disciplines to the UWG campus each semester. All readings are free and open to the public.
The Warren and Ava Sewell Foundation:
The Sewell Foundation is the legacy of Warren and Ava Sewell, whose apparel company vitalized the West Georgia region starting in the 1920s. Since 1946, the Sewell Foundation has continued to improve local communities by supporting a variety of meaningful projects including arts-forward endeavors.
Poet Gary Jackson
Born and raised in Topeka, Kansas, Gary Jackson is the author of the poetry collection Missing You, Metropolis, which received the 2009 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. His poems have appeared in numerous journals, including Callaloo, Tin House, Los Angeles Review of Books, Crab Orchard Review, and he's been published in Shattered: The Asian American Comics Anthology. He was featured in the 2013 New American Poetry Series by the Poetry Society of America and is the recipient of both a Cave Canem and Bread Loaf fellowship. He is an associate professor at the College of Charleston and is the associate poetry editor at Crazyhorse.
